Global Fallout From the Epstein Scandal
Massie pointed to several international developments tied to the Epstein scandal, noting that the fallout has already reached prominent figures around the world.
Among those mentioned
- Prince Andrew, Duke of York, who was stripped of royal titles following his association with Epstein
- Peter Mandelson, former UK ambassador to the United States, who resigned from the House of Lords
- Torbjørn Jagland, former Norwegian prime minister, who has reportedly faced charges connected to investigations abroad
While some individuals outside the United States have faced scrutiny or legal consequences, Massie questioned why similar investigations have not occurred domestically.
His remarks highlight growing calls for greater transparency from U.S. law enforcement agencies regarding the Epstein case and related investigations.
Individuals Named During the Congressional Remarks
During his speech, Massie named several high-profile individuals he believes should face closer investigation based on information referenced in Epstein-related files.
Among the names he cited were:
- Leon Black, former CEO of Apollo Global Management
- Jes Staley, former CEO of Barclays
- Leslie Wexner, billionaire retail executive and former Epstein associate
Massie questioned why the FBI has not pursued deeper investigations involving individuals named within Epstein-related records.
The 2008 Epstein Plea Deal Under Scrutiny
Massie also revisited one of the most controversial aspects of the Epstein case — the 2008 plea agreement that allowed Epstein to receive a relatively light sentence despite allegations of child sex trafficking.
He argued that key documents explaining how prosecutors reached that deal have never been fully disclosed.
The Epstein Files Transparency Act, according to Massie, requires the Department of Justice and the FBI to release internal communications, emails, and memos explaining decisions about whether to prosecute certain individuals.
However, he stated that those documents have still not been delivered to Congress.
Without transparency, Massie warned, the public may never fully understand how Epstein was able to continue operating and allegedly create hundreds of additional victims after the initial case.

Concerns About Lobbying Influence
In addition to the Epstein investigation, Massie raised a separate concern about corporate lobbying efforts influencing government policy.
He warned that lobbyists representing the German pharmaceutical and chemical company Bayer have spent millions of dollars attempting to secure legal protections related to lawsuits over the herbicide Roundup.
According to Massie, the company has spent over $9 million lobbying federal officials, seeking legislation that would shield it from certain liability claims.
He argued that such efforts threaten constitutional protections guaranteeing Americans the right to a trial when they believe they have been harmed.
Why This Congressional Speech Matters
Massie’s remarks reflect a broader frustration among some lawmakers and members of the public who believe that the Epstein case has never been fully investigated.
Key questions remain unanswered:
- Why were certain records heavily redacted?
- Why have no major prosecutions emerged from the files?
- What internal decisions led to Epstein’s controversial 2008 plea deal?
The debate over transparency and accountability in the Epstein case continues to fuel political and public scrutiny.
